Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Whenever a prominent prize-giving event draws close, you'll find a demand for introducing additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories actually cover many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
