Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior representative said the incident left him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
